Local distilleries boost direct sales as ongoing strike hits B.C. liquor distribution

Some local distilleries are seeing a boom in business as public service workers with the B.C. General Employees Union, including liquor distributors, enter their seventh week of strike action. As Kier Junos reports — some liquor producers are selling more of their products directly to bars, restaurants and liquor stores.

“It’s a hundred fold increase. We just bottled 500 bottles of liquor on Friday this week and we have gone through our reserves of vodka. We’re bottling the vodka we created to store because we can’t produce it fast enough to keep up with the demand right now.”

“Breaking into that market is really hard. This is a good opportunity for private liquor manufacturers to get into that market to develop these relationships.”
